In an effort to be safe, rather than sorry, Saratoga governing body voted last week spend $1,000 for police officer active shooter training.

During the November 5th Saratoga town council meeting, Police Lieutenant John Moore said he was contacted by representatives from Carbon County Child Development and TAC*ONE Consulting requesting active shooter drills at local preschools.

Lieutenant Moore explained that the training will be similar to the shooter drills conducted last spring at Carbon County School District Two schools.

Moore said TAC*ONE Consulting Instructor Joe Deedon is requesting $1,000 to provide the town’s five police officers with individual active shooter response training.

Lieutenant Moore told the governing body that the Lone Wolf Training is normally $299 per person. By charging a flat fee of $1,000 to train all five police officers, Deedon is saving the town $495.

The town council unanimously voted to use $1,000 from the Saratoga Police Department’s annual training budget to cover the cost of the TAC*ONE course.

No date was provided for when the active shooter drills will occur.
