Tonight’s Border War, for at least another decade, will be played in Fort Collins.

The Colorado State University (CSU) Rams and the University of Wyoming Cowboys have agreed to continue their long-standing football rivalry, known as the Border War, even though CSU intends to leave the Mountain West Conference join the Pac-12 Conference in 2026.

According to recent announcements, the two schools have signed a contract to play each other through 2035, with CSU hosting the game in even years and Wyoming hosting in odd years. This agreement ensures the continuation of the Border War, one of the oldest and most storied rivalries in college football, dating back to 1899.

The rivalry has been a staple in the schedules for both schools, with the teams playing each other almost every year since 1946, except for a brief World War II hiatus. The Border War has been a significant part of both programs’ identities, and the agreement to continue the series is a testament to the enduring spirit of competition and tradition between the two schools

The rivalry was not played in 1943, 1944 or 1945, during World War II.

The rivalry is one of the most storied in all of college football. Only 65 miles and a state line separates the two schools…and a whole lot of pride.

According to the record book, tonight’s Border War matchup is the 116th meeting between the two universities. It will take place at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The newly contracted series between the two rivals will start in 2028 and be played at Fort Collins. The 2029 game will move to Laramie. The schools are working on amendments for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

The traveling trophy, known as the Bronze Boot, an Army-issue boot worn in Viet Nam by CSU ROTC instructor Dan Romero, became a prominent feature of the game in 1968. Tonight’s Border War game will be the 57th time where the Bronze Boot has been claimed by the game’s winner.

Bigfoot 99 will have the radio broadcast of the game beginning with the pregame show at 4:30 this afternoon. Kickoff is set for six.
