County Commissioner Take On Role During Regional Congressional Staffer Tour

The Carbon County Commissioners have agreed to handle bookkeeping duties for next year’s regional congressional staffer tour.

Last month, Bigfoot99 reported that Carbon County, along with Natrona, Fremont, and Sweetwater Counties, had been chosen to host a natural resource tour next summer. Speaking at the October 1^st Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner John Espy said the tour will provide federal lawmakers with an opportunity to see how our part of Wyoming’s benefits the entire country.

Commissioner Espy said the Wyoming County Commissioners Association, or WCCA, is asking one of the four participating counties to handle bookkeeping for next year’s event.

During the November 12^th board meeting, Commissioner Espy said he and Chairwoman Sue Jones spoke to the WCCA about having Carbon County handle the finances for the tour.  Jones said Carbon County is qualified to handle the bookkeeping duties for the event.

Commissioner Espy agreed, saying that the county and municipal governments are all working toward the same goals. The commissioner expressed concerns over Natrona, Fremont, and Sweetwater Counties’ ability to manage the tour’s finances.

Commissioner Espy said by agreeing to act as bookkeeper for the congressional tour, the Carbon County Clerks and Treasurers Offices must collect money from the other Wyoming County Commissioners Association members. Additionally, the county will need to create two different budget line items separating state and private money to prevent a federal ethics violation.

The board agreed to take over bookkeeping duties for the upcoming WCCA congressional tour in August of 2025.
