The Wyoming Cowboys unnerved the Aggies Wednesday night but needed a few more defensive stops in a 70-67 loss to Utah State in Logan.

The Cowboys used three-point shooting, hitting 12 in all, and held Utah State to below their powerhouse offensive averages in a game that went all the way to the brink.

The Cowboys were down by eight points at 8:56 but showed grit against the powerhouse Aggies. Wyoming hit seven straight in the closing minutes.

Free throws proved the difference for Utah State. The Cowboys pulled back within three points with seven seconds remaining in the contest, but fell short as time ran out.

Wyoming was down by three points at the half with both squads scoring 38 in the second frame.

The Cowboys were led by Obi Agbim with 17 points for his eighth game this season in double-figures. He also added a career-high 10 assists for his first career double-double. Kobe Newton added 17 points with a career-high five three pointers. Jordan Nesbitt nearly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Dontaie Allen added nine points with a season-high three triples.

The Cowboys turned the ball over 12 times, the Aggies eight.

UW Head Coach Sundance Wicks expressed pleasure with the effort the Cowboys played with on the road, but was disappointed in the outcomes. Wicks said he was pleased that his team did not panic in the final minute or two.

Wyoming will remain on the road and return to non-conference action with a trip to South Dakota on Tuesday night in a contest slated for a 6 p.m. MT start.
