The Saratoga Police Department is hosting its first Shop with a Cop event.
Tomorrow, December 18th, five Saratoga Elementary School students will join several of the town’s police officers to shop for Christmas presents at the Walmart in Rawlins.
During the December 3rd Saratoga town council meeting, Acting Police Chief John Moore informed the governing body that his department will be participating in the Shop with a Cop program. Chief Moore explained that local police officers will take children from the community on a Christmas shopping trip.
Speaking to Bigfoot99, Chief Moore said he participated in the Shop with a Cop program while working for the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office. Now, as the head of the Saratoga Police Department, the chief said he is expanding the program to include more Platte Valley children.
During the December 3rd town council meeting, Chief Moore explained that the police department’s budget does not have enough money to cover the cost of Christmas shopping. Instead, the chief said a private citizen has agreed to pay for this year’s event.
Speaking to Bigfoot99, Chief Moore said he must rely on donations until he can set aside money in a future budget.
Due to increasing inflation, Chief Moore said he would like to have between $100 and $150 available for each child.
The Saratoga Police Department is still accepting donations for Wednesday’s Shop with a Cop event. If you would like to financially contribute to the program, call the Saratoga Police Department at 326-8316. All donations must be received before noon tomorrow.
