In Saratoga, the police chief has resigned his position after a serious health issue put him in the hospital. The acting chief will serve as interim chief until a permanent replacement can be found.
Last November, Saratoga Mayor Chuck Davis announced that Police Chief Mike Morris would undergo heart surgery the following month.
While Chief Morris recovered, Lieutenant John Moore served as the acting chief for the Saratoga Police Department.
At Tuesday’s Saratoga town council meeting, Acting Chief Moore reported that Chief Morris had recovered from the surgery and had returned to full duty the previous week. However, the chief submitted a letter requesting to resign from his position as the head of the Saratoga Police Department. Morris instead request to return to service at a lower rank.
Lieutenant Moore read Chief Morris’s letter to the council.
In his letter, Morris said he has suffered no long-term negative effects from his recent heart troubles or surgery. However, Morris advised the mayor and council that he and his family think it would be wise for him to step down as Chief of Police.
The Saratoga town council this week voted to approve Chief Morris’s move from Police Chief to Lieutenant, with the associated salary decrease corresponding to the position.
Next, Mayor Davis appointed Lieutenant Moore as Interim Police Chief while the council decides on how to move forward in filling the position.
The town council unanimously voted to appoint Lieutenant John Moore as Interim Chief of the Saratoga Police Department.
