The Wyoming State Senate, on Monday, passed a bill that would invalidate out-of-state driver’s licenses that were issued to unauthorized illegals in Wyoming.

The bill describes an “”unauthorized alien” as a person who is not a United States citizen and is not lawfully admitted in the United States.

The House passed the bill, introduced by Pepper Ottman of Fremont County, in January. The state House passed the bill on a 45-15 vote with two members abstaining.

The state senate passed the legislation on a 22-8 vote with one member abstaining.

The lower body must now agree to an amendment that allows any non-resident to demonstrate that presence in the United States is lawful.

The bill states that any “driver’s license or nonresident operating privilege document” issued to an “unauthorized alien” outside of Wyoming will be invalid in the Cowboy State if the holder does not provide proof of lawful presence in the United States.

Two states that border Wyoming – Colorado and Utah — along with 19 other states—have laws allowing for “unauthorized immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.”
