The Wyoming Cowgirls roared back from a sluggish first half to dominate Air Force down the stretch with a 77-64 win in the quarterfinal action of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas on Monday night.

David Settle had the call as the Wyoming women roared back for the win after trailing by as many as eight points in the first half.

The Cowgirls shot 76 percent from the field in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 49 to 30.

Wyoming went 0 for 3 from the three-point range in the first half. The Cowgirls hit seven of nine from deep. The Cowgirls set a Mountain West Tournament record for field goal percentage in a game. The previous record was 58.5 percent by New Mexico against San Diego State in 2005.  The Cowgirls shot 60.4 percent on the game. A large part of that was Wyoming’s 76 percent shooting in the second half. The Cowgirls went 19 of 25 from the field in the second half and seven of nine from deep three-point range.

Allyson Fertig recorded her 13th double-double of the season in the win, scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing a game-best 13 rebounds. Last night was Fertig’s 14th twenty-point game of the season. Malene Pedersen had 18 points. Tess Barnes and Emily Mellema each recorded 15.

Assistant Coach Fallon Lewis said the Cowgirls came out disorganized in the first half of play.

The Number 2 Seed Wyoming Cowgirls will play in the Mountain West Championship Semifinals Tuesday night against Number 6 Seed Fresno State at 8:30 Mountain Time.
