Former Wyoming Cowgirl basketball player Allyson Fertig was selected as one of the two nominees to represent the Mountain West Conference for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Fertig also competed in track and field.

On January 15 of this year, the Wyoming native from Glendo who attended Douglas High School, became the third player in University of Wyoming women’s basketball history to reach 1,000 career rebounds.

The milestone came in Laramie as the Cowgirls defeated the University of Nevada.

Fertig ultimately finished her collegiate career with 1,216 career rebounds, setting a new Mountain West record.

Fertig became just the third Cowgirl in Mountain West history to be named the league’s player of the year and was just the second Cowgirl in Mountain West history to win the conference scoring crown.

She also became the first student-athlete in MW history to record 500+ points, 300+ rebounds and 50+ blocks in the same season.

The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the top 30 nominees – 10 from each division – from the conference-level nominees. The top 30 honorees will be announced in the fall.

She closed her stellar Wyoming basketball career in March and capped off one of the finest seasons in program history in 2024-25.
