Malfunctioning power tools sparked a fire in Old Town Hanna.
Around noon on Sunday, a small fire broke out on Clark Street in the northwest section of Hanna. The blaze apparently started in a pile of battery-powered hand tools.
Spotting the thick black smoke, residents quickly arrived on the scene with water and fire extinguishers. However, every time the fire appeared to be out, a battery would explode and reignite the flames.
Hanna fire crews arrived approximately 10 minutes after the fire was reported and extinguished what was left of the blaze.
The homeowner said she was unsure how the fire started, but reported the loss of $10,000 worth of power tools.
Carbon County is currently under Stage One fire restrictions, which prohibit all open flames due to extreme wildfire risk. It remains unclear if the homeowner will face a fine in connection with the incident.
