President Donald Trump, appearing on Fox News this morning, said that Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin was arrested and is now in custody.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was turned into officials by his father.
Kirk, a conservative activist, co-founder of Turning Point USA and friend of Vice President JD Vance, was shot and killed in Orem, Utah earlier this week while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University.
The shooting occurred on September 10 in the university’s courtyard.
Authorities reported that the gunman fired from the roof of the Losee Center, located 100–200 yards from the stage, before fleeing the scene.
The Vice President escorted Kirk’s body on Air Force Two from Utah to his home in Arizona on Thursday night.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said on Wednesday, at a news conference, that prosecutors will seek the death penalty in the case.
