A resident on Saratoga’s west side is demanding that the Town relocate its debris stockpile, which some claim is unsightly.

During the October 15th Saratoga Town Council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis announced that Elizabeth Hilliard, a resident of the Vista Dawn subdivision on the town’s west side, had expressed concern about the staging of waste concrete and rock near her property.

Mayor Davis said Hilliard was unable to attend the Town Council meeting. Instead, the resident submitted an email outlining her concerns. Town Clerk Jennifer Anderson read the letter aloud, in which Hilliard said she was assured that the large debris pile west of Saratoga Middle High School would be removed shortly after she purchased her home. Instead, Hilliard wrote, the pile had only gotten larger.

Hilliard provided the governing body photos taken between October 6th and 8th showing the debris pile from various angles. Clerk Anderson continued reading from Hilliard’s letter in which the resident claimed the town was violating several of its own ordinances, specifically those related to the handling of excavated material and debris and warned that the waste rock might be contaminating the area. Hilliard urged the town to relocate the debris to a more appropriate location.

Hilliard wrote that the dump site is aesthetically unappealing to all Vista Dawn residents. Clerk Anderson continued reading from the letter, in which Hilliard claimed that the debris pile is preventing her from selling or renting her property.

Hilliard ended her letter by stating that visitors and potential investors do not want to see a big pile of waste rock and construction debris when they come to Saratoga.

Mayor Davis said Hilliard also spoke to Public Works Director Emery Penner. The Mayor said that both he and Penner informed the resident that the Town currently lacks a place to relocate the debris pile, adding that Town Attorney Kylie Waldrip is working to secure additional land for that purpose.

Mayor Davis said he would like to move the debris pile as soon as possible, but the Town is unable to do so until the land deal is finalized.
