The Border War is the epitome of a college football “rivalry” game. Few are bigger than the annual contest between Wyoming and Colorado State.

Cowboys Head Coach Jay Sawvel described the uniqueness of the game earlier this week.

Tomorrow’s game will be the 117th edition of the Border War.

Both teams are coming off conference losses and heads rolled in both college towns this past week. Colorado State fired Head Coach Jay Norvell on Sunday following the 31-19 loss to Hawaii.

The Cowboys squandered a touch down opportunity on the road at Air Force in a 24-21 loss to the Falcons. The next day, offensive coordinator Jay Johnson was sidelined and wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight, a former Cowboy player, was promoted to OC.

In Fort Collins, defensive coordinator Tyson Summers, who arrived at CSU earlier this year from Western Kentucky, was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Also, at CSU late this week, former starting quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi exited the team. The redshirt junior has played 31 career games with the Rams and was the starter for parts of three seasons under former Head Coach Norvell.

Wyoming Head Coach Sawvell said despite the changes in coaching staff the ultimate battle comes between the players on field. Sawvel expects CSU to come into the matchup looking to retain the Bronze Boot for one more year. Wyoming will want to use the home-field advantage to keep the trophy in Laramie in this final conference showdown between the two old rivals.

The Cowboys will wear their special Cowboys & Coal jerseys in the matchup that kicks off 5:30 p.m. Bigfoot 99 will be on the air at 4:00 p.m. with the pregame show.
