Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray has been traveling around the state in recent weeks, talking about overhauls to elections in Wyoming.
As he makes his rounds, Gray has said a major rewrite of election codes in Wyoming has not happened since 1973. In the 2025 general session, lawmakers filed 45 election-related bills. Only eight bills made it to the governor’s desk. Seven became law.
On Thursday at a news conference held on the ground floor of the State Capitol Building, Gray discussed an election integrity legislative agenda for the 2026 session. Protecting women sports and banning sanctuary cities and counties are at the top of Gray’s list of legislative reforms.
The legislative session is set to begin on Monday, February 9.
Gray considers sanctuary cites a political virus of sorts that started in liberal states like California and Massachusetts. These states limit or deny local cooperation with national immigration enforcement efforts. Teton County has denied the accusation.
The Democrat-heavy County in northwestern Wyoming was targeted in the 2025 session with House Bill 276, which would have required sheriff deputies to act as immigration enforcers.
Gray also spoke at Thursday’s news conference about opposing what he describes as “woke wind energy projects” in Converse and Niobrara Counties.
