The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees voted on Thursday to hire Brigadier General Shane Reeves as the 29th president of the university.
The 51 year-old Reeves, a native of Sweetwater County, holds a Juris Doctorate and a Master’s of Law degree. He currently serves as Dean of the Academic Board at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
The Board of Trustees offered Reeves a four-year contract with a salary of $500,000 a year.
Reeves graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1992 then enrolled at West Point. He earned a bachelor’s degree in European history in 1996. He began his Army career as an armor officer with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He earned his juris doctor from the College of William and Mary in 2003 and was deployed in support of combat operations in Iraq as a brigade judge advocate. In 2008, Reeves received a Master of Law in Military Law from the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s School, then taught and directed courses there.
Reeves received the Bronze Star for his combat service in Iraq. Reeves will be the 29th President of the University of Wyoming on July 1.
