Barrasso touts Supreme Court nominee
In Washington, Senator John Barrasso dialed up his praise for Brett Kavanaugh, the U.S. Supreme Court nominee. In a release following the announcement Monday, Barrasso offered only a guarded endorsement, saying he wanted to learn more about President Trump’s choice to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy. Yesterday, speaking on the floor of the senate, Barrasso was enthusiastic about the pick.
Wyoming’s junior senator used most of his ten-minute floor speech to underscore Kavanaugh’s documented belief that courts do not have the authority or the responsibility to legislate. This conservative judicial philosophy, Barrasso warned, will make for a tough confirmation fight.
Despite the partisan fight already taking shape in the Senate, Barrasso said he expects the nomination to go to a floor vote by the time the Supreme Court convenes in October.

Not everyone thinks the town should have that power. Emma Diercks has the story.
