During last week’s Rawlins City Council meeting, officials explored ways to help the Carbon County Museum Board fund $20,000 in unpaid renovations to its new building. Representatives from the museum explained the recent masonry work performed on the Hugus-Ferguson building as part of the Facade Easement Project cost more than initial estimates and as a result, the contractor has not yet been paid for the work. Ryan Fire 30 percent contained, public meeting slated for tonight

Crews working the Ryan Fire took advantage of wet ground and cooler temperatures Monday to establish containment lines. In the first sign of any gains since the fire started 10 days ago, the latest update puts containment at 30 percent.

Christopher Barth, public information officer with Rocky Mountain Team Black, told Bigfoot 99 Tuesday that most of the lines were build near Big Creek Ranch and to the south in an area burned two years ago in the Beaver Creek Fire.

The size of the fire grew slightly Monday to 19,962 acres. Fire behavior is expected to remain low for at least another day, maybe two, before dry conditions increase the chances of another flare up like what we saw over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the regional incident team brought in to manage the Ryan Fire will hold a public meeting in Encampment tonight, the second in a week. Tonight’s meeting will feature information about the fire and allow an opportunity for the public to ask questions. The meeting is set for the Grand Encampment Opera House on Rankin Avenue at 6:00 p.m. Representatives from Rocky Mountain Team Black and other local agencies will conduct the meeting, which will be similar to the one held last Friday.
