Wet weather slows Ryan Fire, closures remain in effect
Cooler temperatures and intermittent showers over the last several days have knocked down the fever on the Ryan Fire. The improving conditions prompted officials yesterday to lift evacuation orders for the communities of Pearl, Colorado and Skyline, here in Carbon County. Forest Service and BLM closures that have affected hunt areas for the last three weeks on both sides of the state line, however, remain in effect. Officials say the closures will be lifted as areas become safe for the public.
More wet weather is expected today and over the weekend. Another sign that the incident is coming to an end: Fire crews are beginning to remove equipment from the burn zone. The latest mapping puts the size of the Ryan Fire at 28,584 acres. It is 35 percent contained.
