Rawlins man pleads guilty to felony burglary charges
A Rawlins man appeared in Carbon County District Court on Tuesday. He plead guilty to felony burglary after stealing from several vehicles parked at a local hotel. Emma Diercks reports.
Rawlins stores accidentally overcharge shoppers
Carbon County residents who have shopped at businesses in Rawlins recently should double check their receipts. At least three chain-stores have continued to charge a six percent sales tax even though it was supposed to have decreased to five percent on October 1st after the sixth penny sales and use tax expired. Cali O’Hare reports.
Snow and cold temperatures hit Carbon County
Carbon County residents are getting a dose of wintry weather as a low pressure system moves east through northern Colorado, the Snowy and Sierra Madre mountain ranges. The National Weather service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the county including Interstate 80 between Rawlins and Laramie. Snow accumulations are expected between 1 to 3 inches, with heavier snowfall in the mountains, where there could be 6 to 12 inches of new snow. The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Saratoga officials consider funding options for Tyler Picket Park
The Saratoga Town Council is looking at financing a portion of Tyler Picket Park with Wyoming Community Gas money. The town expects to receive $4,700 from the natural gas provider by the end of the year, and several projects are under consideration. Emma Diercks has the details.
Search and rescue team aids Rawlins family
A search and rescue team from Rawlins came to the aid of a local family with three young children that became stranded while hunting in the Sand Hills area Saturday.
According to a statement from the Carbon County Sheriff’s office, Ryan and Hanni Rowicki used their truck’s On-Star system to call for help after they became bogged down in wet and muddy conditions near the headwater drainage of Cow Creek. Responders used the GPS coordinates provided by the On-Star system to pinpoint the truck’s location.
Sergeant Brian Lally spearheaded the rescue team, which included Michael Lujan, Zac Rodgers and Mike Newbrough. According to the release, the help call came in at 9:53 Saturday night. The team located the family shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday and escorted them back to Rawlins by 5 a.m. All the family members are reported to be in good health after the ordeal.
RHS rallies around special education teacher battling cancer
The students and faculty of Rawlins High School are asking the community to join them in supporting two special education teachers in a battle against an aggressive, stage three cancer. Yesterday, Jeff and Tiffany Green returned to the high school after spending the first part of the school year at an oncology center in Utah. Cali O’Hare has the story.
