Report: Six Carbon County schools meet or exceed standards
According to results released by the Wyoming Department of Education on Thursday, six of Carbon County’s 11 schools meet or exceed state academic standards. The new state assessment and new federal standards added new measures to this year’s school performance ratings. Emma Diercks reports.
Two Coloradans arrested after vehicle chase near Baggs
Carbon County Sheriff’s deputies with help from the Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested a man and a woman outside Baggs Tuesday who apparently were working together but driving separate stolen vehicles.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Department, the incident started when authorities were notified that two suspicious-appearing individuals were asking for money in Baggs. A short time later when the pair refused to pull over for a deputy who was attempting to stop the vehicles at milepost 14 on Wyoming 789, a pursuit began. The pair split up, driving in separate directions, but both were eventually taken into custody.
The male suspect is identified as Sterling Dixon, 21, of Colorado. He was driving a 2001 Pontiac. The female was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. She is identified as 26-year-old Jessica Campbell, also of Colorado.
The cars were reported stolen out of Colorado Springs and Craig according to the Sheriff’s statement. The pair are being held in Carbon County Jail with numerous charges pending.
Boys and Girls Club raising money to keep up with increasing enrollment
The Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County continues to see increasing enrollment numbers, including more teens becoming involved with the nonprofit. To fill the growing need in the community, the nonprofit hopes to raise as much as $30,000 at its upcoming fundraiser dinner. Cali O’Hare has the story.
Update: Health Management Services opens permanent clinic in Saratoga
Health Management Services is now seeing patients at the Corbett Medical Building in Saratoga. HMS transitioned to the site Thursday afternoon after signing the town’s lease for the clinic. Emma Diercks has the latest in this ongoing story.
Bat cave closes for the season
Wildlife biologists and staff from the BLM Rawlins Field Office recently hung the seasonal Do Not Disturb sign on the entrance to Cave Creek Cave in Carbon County. Human disturbances within the cave could be fatal to the bats that will inhabit it throughout the winter months. Cali O’Hare has more.
Sports: Little Snake River in win-or-go-home contest
