City of Rawlins wants Dirty Boyz lawsuit dismissed
In the latest round of the ongoing legal battle between Dirty Boyz Sanitation and Rawlins, the plaintiff is shrugging off the latest punch thrown by city hall. The city filed a motion in district for summary dismissal of the Dirty Boyz lawsuit.
The city wants the case thrown out. Bruce Moats, the attorney for the trash hauler doesn’t believe the city has not met its legal obligation in the case, and will be filing a motion of his own. Cali O’Hare has the story.
New nurse practitioner will join Platte Valley Clinic as search for doctor continues
In Saratoga, Health Management Services updated the public this week on efforts to hire a doctor for the Platte Valley Clinic. While the company is still having difficulty hiring a physician to work here, a mid-level nurse practitioner is joining the clinic in March.
Extreme snow drifts prolonge I-80 closure

Interstate 80 remained closed last night for the second straight night. WYDOT is blaming blowing and drifting snow west of Rawlins for the extended closure that could last 76 hours or more before it ends.
Near Evanston, trucks can be seen parked bumper to bumper along the roadway. Similar scenes are happening in Laramie. While many WYDOT web cams along Interstate 80 in Carbon and Sweetwater County showed clear roadways, highway crews are fighting extreme conditions in other stretches where cameras are not installed.
Cody Beers, a public relations specialist with the state highway department, told Bigfoot 99 that snowplow crews are running into what he described as “big time drifting.” Plow operators are battling strong winds and low visibility to clear out drifts up to five feet high and a mile long in places.”
One of the worst hardest hit areas is west of Rawlins about halfway to Creston Junction at Riner Road, Exit 196, 20 miles west of Rawlins. Another area made impassable by the drifting is west of Creston Junction to Wamsutter. WYDOT crews are using plows, rotary plows, motor graders, front end loaders and other equipment on loan from the private sector to clear the road.
Meteorologist Don Day said one of the key factors in the extended closure is that the drifting was caused by winds from the due south. Most of the snow fences in the area are built for the region’s prevailing west-to-southwest winds. The snow fences were either misaligned or in some cases, filled up quickly and were no longer effective in mitigating the drifting snow.
The latest update indicates the I-80 corridor could open late this afternoon between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Strong winds and more snow are in the forecast for later today.
