In Rawlins, after a lengthy run with few, if any, positive cases of COVID-19 at the Wyoming State Penitentiary, an outbreak seems to be underway.

The Department of Corrections reports that 10 staff members have contracted the virus, or at least tested positive.

In a release sent Friday, the DOC also reports one COVID-19 case among inmates in addition to the ten among staff. Positive cases among inmates are monitored and managed by Corizon Health, the contract health care provider.

Among the other facilities in the state prison system, only the Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington is reporting a positive case. An inmate is reportedly infected there. The Honor Farm in Riverton, the Honor Conservation Camp in New Castle and the Women’s Center in Lusk all report zero cases of the virus.

The state prison here employs about 225 people. It’s unknown whether the infected staff members are vaccinated or not.
