The Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter is looking for individuals to open their homes to pets for adoption. The shelter is home to 10 dogs and eight cats, all looking for their “forever” homes.

Rawlins Police Officer and Animal Control Supervisor Lieutenant Daria Hooper asked to highlight a 9-year-old pit mix named Reba. Lieutenant Hooper said Reba has been at the Rochelle Animal Shelter since the middle of last year, after potentially being abandoned at a local truck stop. Reba requires special medical care.

Cushing’s Disease is caused by elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Symptoms include bloating, hair loss and excessive drinking and urination.

Lieutenant Hooper said Reba is surprisingly playful for her age and would do best as an only pet.

Lieutenant Hooper also highlighted a cat named Frosty. The police lieutenant said Frosty is an all-white adult cat who would make a great companion once he gets to know a person.

Lieutenant Hooper mentioned that Frosty gets along well with other cats. Although he hasn’t been tested around dogs, the police lieutenant said she expects Frosty will do well with them as well.

The Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter takes part in the Cage to Save program, where inmates of the Wyoming State Penitentiary train shelter dogs in basic obedience and good canine citizenship.

Lieutenant Hooper said three graduates from the Cage to Save program have been adopted from the shelter within the past month. The shelter still has three graduates available for adoption: two black labs named Onyx and Ember, and a mixed-breed named Thor. The police lieutenant said that the $50 adoption fee is a great value given the dogs’ training.
