The Wyoming Frontier Prison is hosting an exhibition of ancient petroglyphs and pictographs.
The Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins is currently exhibiting a series of rock art pictures in its historic guard quarters. The Old Pen’s Historic Site Director Tina Hill explained what visitors can expect from the exhibit.
Hill said the 30 petroglyph pictures on display were taken by the staff at the Fort Caspar Museum. The Old Pen director said the exhibit is traveling around the state.
To celebrate the new rock art exhibit, the Wyoming Frontier Prison is hosting a reception and liquor tasting next Thursday, March 21st. Hill said Gary Sanders from the Wyoming Liquor Broker, will bring a selection of alcohols from across the state, called “Taste of the West.”
Next Thursday’s rock art exhibit reception is free and open to all ages, but attendees must be 21 or older to participate in the $10-per-person liquor tasting. Hill said money raised during the event will be shared with the Wyoming State Penitentiary.
Hill said this year, the Wyoming State Penitentiary and the Frontier Prison will work together on more fundraising community events.
The Old Pen director thanked the Fort Caspar Museum for allowing the Frontier Prison to display the rock art pictures. Hill also invited the public to see the newly renovated historic guard quarters at the prison.
The Wyoming Rock Art Exhibit Reception with the “Taste of the West” Liquor Tasting is next Thursday, March 21st, from 5:00 to 7:30pm. The event will be held in the historic guard quarters at the Wyoming Frontier Prison, located at 500 West Walnut Street, in Rawlins. The reception is free, but liquor tasting is $10 a person.
The rock art exhibit will be on display at the Old Pen until March 28th.
