The Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter has many animals in need of good friends and loving homes.
Following a surge in dog surrenders last week, the Rawlins animal shelter now houses 14 dogs, along with seven more animals enrolled in the Cage to Save Program. Additionally, the shelter contains seven cats. Rawlins Police Lieutenant Daria Hooper has highlighted a special cat and dog who are seeking their forever homes.
The first shelter animal mentioned by Lieutenant Hooper is Victoria, an adult cat who, despite being overweight, is sure to make an excellent companion.
Audio PlayerLieutenant Hooper’s second highlighted shelter animal is Ozzy, a younger pit bull mix. The police lieutenant said Ozzy was suffering from a variety of serious injuries when he was found south of the city.
Audio PlayerOzzy is on the mend and doing well. Despite his love of people, Lieutenant Hooper said Ozzy would do best in a home where he is the only dog.
Audio PlayerThe Rawlins Rochelle Animal Shelter is part of a unique initiative called the Cage to Save Program, where inmates of the nearby Wyoming State Penitentiary train shelter dogs in basic obedience.
Lieutenant Hooper said the most recent graduates from the Cage to Save Program have already been selected for adoption.
Audio PlayerLieutenant Hooper said the Rochelle Animal Shelter is always looking for donations of pet treats to make the animals a little happier during their time at the shelter. The Rawlins animal shelter also welcomes donations of money, which help cover the cost of medical treatment for the animals.
