And then there were six. Another WYDOT snowplow has been struck in our region.

On Wednesday afternoon, Wyoming Department of Transportation District One Senior Public Relations Specialist Andrea Staley announced that a sixth plow truck had been involved in a traffic collision.

In a written statement, Staley said that at around 10:00 p.m. the previous evening, a passenger vehicle rear-ended a WYDOT snowplow on eastbound Interstate 80, outside Laramie. The plow operator was closing the gate at mile marker 317 when the driver of the passenger vehicle, who is reported to have been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time, crashed into the back of the plow truck.

Black ice and slick roads were reported at the time of the incident.

The plow operator was uninjured in the crash. However, an unknown number of occupants in the passenger car are reported to have sustained undisclosed injuries. The plow truck was heavily damaged.

Senior Public Relations Specialist Staley reported that Monday’s crash was the 14th WYDOT plow truck involved in a motor vehicle collision this season, and the sixth in District One.

Staley reminded drivers that Wyoming Statute 31-5-224 requires operators of motor vehicles to yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles, including snowplows, and move over to allow them to pass. The statute also applies to maintenance workers.
