Americans are paying more for everything, a lot more. The June Consumer Price Index showed inflation rose 9.1 percent year-over-year, the highest since 1981. Some consumer categories rose much more than 10 percent.

U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference blasted the White House for its mishandling of the economy. “Working families are struggling to make ends meet as they continue to face the worst inflation in more than 40 years,” Senator Barrasso said in a statement Wednesday. “The price of groceries, gas, rent, and utilities are skyrocketing. All while paychecks aren’t keeping up.”

President Joe Biden brushed off the numbers yesterday, saying they are “out of date” because they reflect the cost of gasoline in June, not now. It’s not the first time that the president deflected bad numbers. In December, he called inflation “a bump in the road,” and said prices would fall in 2022. The opposite has happened. In response to yesterday’s “out of date” remark, RNC Research released a two-minute video documenting Biden administration officials spinning inflation numbers since May of last year.

Senator Barrasso said the country is in danger of a recession because of what he said was “President Biden’s failed economic agenda.”

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of June showed an increase of 1.3 percent over May, slightly higher than the expected 1.1 percent. Meanwhile, food prices went up 10.4 percent, while the energy index increased 41.6 percent.
