Wyoming Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis were both “no” votes $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package that passed the upper chamber Thursday. The package included $45 billion in military and economic aid for Ukraine.

The spending package also included $410 million in border security in countries other than the United States, including Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Oman and Lebanon.

Other remarkable examples of pork and vanity spending are $3.6 million for the Michelle Obama Trail, a flat, three-mile walking path in Georgia. Another $3 million in spending is tagged for an LGBTQ museum in New York, $200 million in gender equality in places like Pakistan. Also included in the bill is not less than $575,000 in spending on “family planning/reproductive health, including in areas where population growth threatens biodiversity or endangered species.”

The bill is 4,115 pages. Stacked up, it stands about three feet high. Utah Senator Mike Lee characterized it as extortion.
