At the Town Council meeting, a representative from Black Hills Energy reported that a big portion of the natural gas main replacement project has been completed.

The company is using a contractor, NPL, to replace natural gas mains in the alley between Saratoga Avenue and Main Avenue. The main runs run east and west from North River Street to North 5th Street.

Alex Valencia with the Black Hills Energy, said the main is installed, but they’ll be back in the spring to install new meters to residents.

A company news release states that the old steel pipelines were replaced with polyethylene pipe designed for decades of safe, reliable service. Black Hills Energy is employing directional drilling to minimize disruption to both residents and to street surfaces. Underground cameras were used to avoid sewer lines.

As part of the project, 46 existing meters will be replaced and moved to more secure locations if needed. The meters will be replaced in the spring. Valencia said he toured the project area with the town’s public works department, which signed off on the work.
