The Town of Buffalo, Wyoming is gearing up for this summer’s celebration of Longmire Days.
Buffalo is the setting for the Craig Johnson series of novels about a Wyoming marshal, Walt Longmire, that was made into a television series.
The Longmire series was a success in print. It became the highest-rated original drama series on the A&E network. The episodes follow Longmire, the dedicated lawman who is haunted by his dead wife, his daughter, deputies, and others as they investigate major crimes in the fictional Absaroka County in Wyoming.
The Buffalo Town council approved a number of requests from the Longmire foundation for this year’s celebration of Longmire Days. The council approved a couple of street closures and a designated open container for the event, which will take place from July 18 through the 21st.
Craig Johnson, the author of the series, along with Robert Taylor, the Australian actor who played the starring role in the series, are scheduled to be in Buffalo, the home of Walt Longmire for the celebration.
Longmire Days begins on July 18th with a reading by Craig Johnson and a history of early Johnson County lawmen, like Sheriff William “Red” Angus the former soldier who became a principal leader and combatant during the Johnson County Cattle War.
Jennifer McCormick, with the Longmire Foundation, spoke to the Buffalo Town council, seeking various requests for this summer’s events.
A 5K race, a talent show, discussions with the Longmire television cast and a session entitled, “So You Want to Write a Book,” and a pancake breakfast and a concert featuring Jalan Crossland are all part of this year’s four-day event in Buffalo from July 18 through July 21st.
