If you’re headed to the forests of northern Colorado and southeast Wyoming this weekend, you’re reminded to be aware that burn scars from recent fires can still create hazards.
In the past five years, local wildfires on both sides of the state line border have burned over 391,000 acres — 611 square miles — of National Forest Lands. That doesn’t include adjacent state and private lands.
Post-fire impacts include flooding and falling hazard trees.
The U.S. Forest Service encourages visitors to seek out on-the-ground condition reports at district offices and social media pages before you start your outdoor adventure.
