The official welcome of the new director of the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins will be held tomorrow. A “Meet & Greet” will be held to introduce Thomas Mensik.
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Mensik received a master’s degree in museum studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2017. He became the director of the CC Museum on September 19th. Mensik said he has plenty of museum experience.

Mensik worked for the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum until July. He left with hopes of running his own museum. Mensik said he enjoyed his time at Wings Over the Rockies, but the Carbon County Museum really appeals to him.
Mensik has plans to increase the museum’s online presence through YouTube videos and podcasts. Mensik said he would like more people to be aware of the museum and what it has to offer.
Mensik would like to bring more people into Carbon County. He wants his museum to showcase the history of the entire region.
Mensik acknowledged that the museum hasn’t done a great job of reaching out to the community in the past. Starting next spring, he plans on hosting more events. Mensik sees the museum property as a great way to attract visitors.
Wyoming is known as the Cowboy State for a reason, but there is plenty of modern history as well. From secret World War II listening posts to the present-day railroad, Mensik said history is made every day.
The Carbon County Museum is located at 904 West Walnut Street in Rawlins. Stop by on October 5th, from 5-8 p.m. and say hello to the new director. Visit the Museum website at www.carboncountymuseum.org for more information.
