The Carbon County Commissioners are offering 20 parcels of land for sale that the county came in possession as long ago as the 1950s. The properties are listed on the county website.

Clerk Gwynn Bartlett said the commissioners approached her last year to research properties that could be returned to private ownership. Bartlett said the properties listed for sale are only a partial list of what may actually be put up for bid.

Bartlett said property owners with holdings adjacent to the lots up for bid in Skyline Acres have been contacted to see if they have any interest in acquiring them. The 19 lots there are all zoned for an industrial subdivision. No minimum bid is listed for the lots in Skyline Acres, but commissioners reserve the right to reject a bid if they deem it is unreasonable, the county clerk said.

The 10-acre parcel near Battle Creek has a $40,000 minimum bid, but the land title notes the property comes with a “lack of right of access to and from the land.” The notice for the parcel on the county website carries the advisory that “access should be reviewed and obtained by the purchaser.”

According to the notice, “land will be sold to the highest responsible bidder meeting at least the minimum bid (if any).” Sealed bids are due no later than July 28th. The commissioners will consider the bids at their August 2nd meeting. The list of properties, Notice of Sale, Bid Form and Agreement for Sale are all listed on the Carbon County website, carbonwy.com.
