The Carbon County Higher Education Center and Sheriff Alex Bakken teamed up this past weekend to teach kids about self-defense.

Sheriff Bakken visited the Little Snake River Valley to talk about personal safety with local children. The sheriff said his training is usually catered toward adults. Teaching kids was a new experience.

Sheriff Bakken said his presentation focused less on physical training and more on discussing safety techniques. The sheriff said he had a little trouble keeping younger children occupied during the classes.

Sheriff Bakken shared some tips for keeping kids safe. During his presentation, the sheriff also taught older children a few physical methods of self-defense.

Sheriff Bakken said his collaboration with the Carbon County Higher Education Center was well received by everyone who attended. The sheriff said he enjoys meeting with young people outside of an emergency situation.

Bigfoot99 asked Sheriff Bakken if he intended to hold more kids’ self-defense classes around the county. The sheriff said he would, if there is an interest.
