The City of Rawlins issued a news release on Friday about the potential of drinking water in the municipality appearing cloudy after interruptions to service last week.

The high-pressure line that carries water from the treatment plant to the in-town water tanks suffered three holes over the course of last week. The high-pressure line which has been earmarked for priority repairs over the next five years suffered blowouts on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

All the holes were repaired quickly, within one day of being discovered. According to the release from the city, levels in the storage tanks remained at safe levels.

The section of pipe that suffered the damage is scheduled to be replaced today.

The release issued by the City over the weekend advises that because of the fragile condition of the high-pressure water line, it may continue to experience breaks. Any ruptures will require clamping and other repairs.

The City’s high-pressure transmission line is critical to about half of the residents in Rawlins. The line carries treated water from the treatment plant to both in-town tanks. One of the tanks sits above the El Rancho/Hospital neighborhood. The other is situated above the Happy Hollow/Scarlet Drive neighborhood.
