Carbon County officials are asking for applicants to fill several open board positions. The Board of Carbon County Commissioners is soliciting interested persons to apply to serve on the Senior Services, County Fair, and Upper North Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District boards.
County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett said she is looking for an Elk Mountain resident to serve a three-year term on the Senior Services Board.
Members of the Senior Services Board will be expected to attend monthly meetings to decide on the policies and procedures of the county’s eight senior centers. Additionally, the volunteers are responsible for the hiring and firing of senior center employees.
Clerk Bartlett said that more than five of the 10-person Senior Service Board must be 65 years of age or older. Since the current board already meets that requirement, Bartlett said individuals of any age are welcome to apply.
The Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District also has an open board position. Clerk Bartlett said the applicant must live in the town of Riverside and be registered to vote.
The Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District is a five-member board tasked with developing trash management policies, setting rates, and supervising the operations of the disposal district. Meetings are held monthly, alternating between Saratoga and Encampment.
Clerk Bartlett said the Carbon County Fair Board has a single five-year seat available. Unlike the previous two boards, applicants for the Fair Board do not need to reside in a specific part of the county.
As a member of the five-person Fair Board, applicants are expected to have a working knowledge of agriculture and a willingness to help plan and run the annual county fair. Monthly meetings typically last six to eight hours.
Clerk Bartlett said three seats on the Carbon County Weed and Pest Control Board are set to open in January. Applicants from Saratoga, Rawlins, and Elk Mountain must collect at least 10 signatures from local landowners to qualify for board membership.
The Carbon County Weed and Pest Control Board is charged with creating and implementing programs to control noxious weeds, insects, and other pests. Board members meet once a month for approximately three hours.
Clerk Bartlett encouraged anyone interested in serving on a board to find out more by either visiting the county website or speaking to a current or former board member to learn if a board position is right for you.
Applying for a board position can be done either online or by calling the Carbon County Clerk’s Office at 328-2630.
Applications for the Senior Services, County Fair, and Upper North Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District boards must be submitted to the clerk’s office by Wednesday, December 11th. Board appointments will be made during the following Carbon County Commissioner meeting on December 17th.
Clerk Bartlett said the county will accept applications for board appointments at any time. The applications will be reviewed when an open seat becomes available.
