Starting today, WYDOT will begin paving roads around Carbon County. Officials say to expect potential delays.

A press release issued yesterday morning by the Wyoming Department of Transportation states, WYDOT maintenance crews will begin seasonal paving operations in Carbon County today, weather permitting. WYDOT Public Information Specialist Andrea Staley said every year maintenance foremen examine the state’s roads and determine where repairs are needed. Staley said WYDOT road repair crews will be operating across the county this month.

Today the Wagonhound crossroad and one off-ramp at mile marker 267 along Interstate 80 will be closed while WYDOT crews pave the road. The Wagonhound rest area will remain closed during the paving operation. Staley said the roadwork will serve as a stop-gap measure until more permanent repaving efforts can take place in the future.

Staley said the Wagonhound rest area should only be closed today. Barring any unforeseen problems, the public information specialist said the majority of the repairs around Carbon County should take one or two days at most.

Staley also said weather can have a significant impact on when the roadwork is completed.

According to the WYDOT press release, other locations the maintenance crews plan to pave this year in Carbon County include:

US 30 at mileposts 254 near Hanna and 274 near Medicine Bow

I-80 bridge approaches at mileposts 259, 263, 267 near Elk Mountain

I-80 at mileposts 193 and 208 near Rawlins

Various sections along WY70 and WY230 near Saratoga

Various locations on WY70 near Baggs

The WYDOT-provided list is not necessarily in project order; crews may move between the locations based on weather conditions, material, and equipment availability, or other factors.

Another WYDOT project in Carbon County is the Fort Steele rest area. Staley said construction of the truck parking lot unearthed needed repairs in and around the rest area itself. The public information specialist said WYDOT crews are waiting for the necessary supplies to complete the job. Staley said the Fort Steele rest area should reopen later this year.

WYDOT is asking all motorists, traveling through any of the work areas this month, to expect potential delays due to lane closures, reduced speed limits, and other traffic control measures. In any work zone, be sure to avoid distractions like cell phones and obey all posted signs and flaggers.
