Carbon County Clerk Gwynn Bartlett provided commissioners with an election update this week. Bartlett began with an explanation about why voter turnout among registered Republicans was more than 100 percent. In the case of last week’s primary turnout among Republicans was 100.3 percent.

Bartlett said the election audit on Thursday did not produce any changes from the original results from Tuesday night. Bartlett said the canvass board had to reconvene on Friday because of the mayoral race in Elk Mountain, where more write-in votes – 21 – were cast than the four votes Ken Casner received, whose name was on the ballot.

The canvassing board consists of Bartlett and a representative from each party, Joey Correnti and Veronica Fernandez.

Write-in candidates will have five days to accept or decline the nomination for the office to which they received votes. The certified letters went out Friday and Bartlett told commissioners write-in candidates should have received them on Monday or Tuesday. Her office is also working with town clerks to reach out to the write-ins. If the top write-in candidate cannot be reached, does not respond, or declines the nomination, Bartlett said her office will reach out to the candidate who received the second highest amount of write-in nominations.

The General Election will be held on November 8th. Clerk Bartlett characterized the primary election with a “great turnout” of 75 percent. She thanked the election judges who worked the polls on Election Day.
