The county commissioners have donated an unused parcel of county land to the City of Rawlins. During last week’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Deputy County Clerk Lisa Smith discussed the county-owned property located near the corner of West State and Bennett Streets, on the southwest side of Rawlins.

County Attorney Ashley Davis said the county has no need for the parcel of land and should give it to the city.

Deputy Clerk Smith said the county does not know the value of the land. However, Rawlins officials will still accept the vacant property without performing a costly survey first.

Commissioner Travis Moore moved to sign Resolution 2024-08, a resolution of the board to donate vacant land. Commissioner Moore read the resolution.

Commissioner John Johnson said the county has been selling vacant property in an effort to increase tax revenue. Commissioner Johnson said the parcel of land on West State and Bennett Streets will be better utilized by the city.

The board voted to donate the county-owned property on the southwest side of Rawlins to the City of Rawlins.
