The Carbon County Public Health Officer blindsided the board of commissioners yesterday when he announced he was seeking mask mandate to be implemented immediately.

Dr. Wayne Couch told the board that the purpose of the mask order is medical, not political. He had neither sought the board’s advice nor council before submitting the request.

The state attorney general approved the mandate yesterday afternoon, making Carbon one of 12 counties in the state where residents are required to mask up under penalty of law. Cali O’Hare has the story.
