Today is Primary Election Day across Wyoming. Carbon County officials urge residents to bring their ID with them to the polls today, when they choose the candidates who will appear on the ballot in November’s general election.
Wyoming voters are required to present a valid form of identification before registering to vote or casting their ballots. Carbon County Deputy Clerk Lisa Smith explained the types of ID poll workers will accept.
Unregistered voters may register to vote at their local polling station. Your ID does not need to display your current Wyoming home address.
Smith said the Carbon County Clerk’s Office has issued 862 absentee ballots for today’s election. As of Monday morning, 713 of the ballots had been returned. Absentee ballots must be received by 7:00 pm tonight. Smith said in order to meet the deadline, absentee voters will need to physically deliver their ballots to the Carbon Building in Rawlins.
As of Monday afternoon, Smith said 5,473 voters are registered in Carbon County.
Earlier this month, the Board of Carbon County Commissioners voted to place the creation of a taxpayer-funded hospital district on the general election ballot. Smith said voters will decide on that measure in November. At the same time, members of the hospital district board will also need to be chosen. Like all special districts, Smith said candidates have another week to submit their nominations.
Polls are open until 7:00 pm tonight. Smith reminded everyone to bring a valid ID.
