Bigfoot99 brings you a roundup of the Independence Day activities going on in Carbon County.
The July 4th holiday weekend starts today for many people. You can celebrate the founding of our country and the freedoms it represents by attending one of the many fun events happening around the area.
Fireworks are a must for the 4th of July. Carbon County Fire Warden John Rutherford told Bigfoot99 where in the county people can see fireworks displays.
Fire Warden Rutherford did not mention the fireworks happening in Rawlins, but of course, the Independence Day show in the city is a must-see event. Rawlins Fire Battalion Chief Alan Robinson will oversee massive display, as he has for 20 years. Battalion Chief Robinson said he’ll be setting off over 1,000 pyrotechnics once the sun goes down on Tuesday night.
Battalion Chief Robinson said the fireworks will be launched from the Rawlins Radio Control Recreation Area, south of the baseball diamonds, between Harshman Street and the Highway 287 bypass. Robinson and Public Information Officer Mira Miller said just about every part of the city will have a good view of the action.
If you haven’t had your fill of outdoor fun, Rawlins will hold its third 2023 Music in the Park concert two days later, on July 6th. Thursday’s musical guest is Loveland, Colorado’s Lendon James. James will play a mix of modern and classic country music, including some of his original songs. Music in the Park takes place at Washington Park, off Mountainview Boulevard in Rawlins.
The town of Saratoga is also celebrating the 4th of July in a big way. The town’s member’s-only retreat and golf course, the Old Baldy Club, will hold its annual fireworks display Tuesday evening. Before the sun goes down, enjoy a day of food, drink, and music on Bridge Avenue during Saratoga Days.
The yearly festival begins with the free pancake breakfast Tuesday morning, hosted by the Saratoga Fire Department. The Independence Day parade, arranged by the American Legion will follow at 11:00 a.m. After the procession, guests are invited to visit Veteran’s Island for a big barbecue. Presented this year by the Saratoga Days Committee, money raised by the cookoff will go to fund next year’s July 4th concert.
Heading south, the town of Baggs will also have its own fireworks display. The pyrotechnics begin Tuesday night, at dusk. If you can’t wait that long for something to do in the Baggs area, this weekend is the 39th annual Lion’s Club Rodeo in Dixon. The performance begins at 7:00pm tomorrow evening, at Russell Community Park. The show begins again the next day at one o’clock in the afternoon.
Heading back to the Platte River Valley, Encampment will put on a 4th of July fireworks show. Rockets will fly from McClure Baseball Field, at 4th Street and Barnett Avenue, starting around 9:00pm.
Medicine Bow is skipping fireworks this year. Instead, the Medicine Bow Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a 1st of July event tomorrow. Madison Tirpak is in charge of the games for the celebration. Tirpak shared some of the fun activities that the town has prepared for tomorrow’s festivity.
The 1st of July event will consist of firefighter games, food, and children’s carnival games. Tirpak said she didn’t know exactly what the firefighter games would be, but she described the games available for kids and the cost to join in.
Sinclair, Hanna, Elk Mountain, and Riverside are not holding their own individual 4th of July events. They are relying on the festivities of surrounding towns.
Fire Warden Rutherford said all fireworks shows must have a county-issued permit. He said a 40-year-old law bans residents from having pyrotechnics.
Whether you’re looking for fireworks, parades, concerts, or barbecues, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this 4th of July weekend in Carbon County.
