Sheriff’s deputies found drugs and guns during a traffic stop in Rawlins.
On the night of Thursday, September 12th, deputies with the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle in the city of Rawlins for a moving violation.
At Tuesday’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Sheriff Alex Bakken said during the traffic stop, K9 Officer Mako alerted to the presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle yielded over a half pound of methamphetamine and a pistol. After obtaining a search warrant, Sheriff Bakken said deputies found more drugs and an AR-15 rifle stolen out of Rawlins.
Unlike drugs smuggled on Interstate 80, Sheriff Bakken said these drugs were destined for Carbon County residents. The sheriff said he enjoys taking illegal guns and narcotics off the local streets.
In a Facebook post about the incident, Sheriff Bakken thanked his deputies, K9 Mako, and both the Rawlins Police Department and the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation for their roles in the drug bust.
