Today in Rawlins, a flag ceremony will be held outside the police department in commemoration of National Police Week, a time set aside for officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Rawlins Chief Mike Ward made the announcement at last week’s City Council Meeting.
The Rawlins Police Department will hold a flag ceremony and open house this afternoon starting at 2:30pm in front of the station located at 215 5th Street.
Yesterday in Washington, D.C., Senator John Barrasso honored fallen Sheridan Police officer, Sergeant Nevada Krinkee, who was gunned down while serving a trespass warrant in the northern Wyoming town on February 13 of this year.
On that day, a Sheridan police car parked on the lawn in front of the town’s police department was covered in flowers, American flags, mementoes, and other tokens of affection for the fallen officer.
More than four-thousand people lined the main street of Sheridan, braving the cold weather, to pay tribute to the fallen officer as his funeral procession passed through the winding main street of the town.
The cold-blooded murder of Krinkee led to a 30-hour standoff with the heavily armed suspect, who had barricaded himself in another house until police shot and killed the vagrant when he tried to escape.
Senator Barrasso thanked police officers, calling them “heroes” who are among us every day.
Again, the ceremony for fallen officers in Rawlins today begins at 2:30 and will include a tour of the police station at 215 5th Street.
