A faulty electrical line is being blamed for the power outage that put Carbon Power and Light customers in the Platte Valley offline for nearly four hours on Saturday.
More than 3,000 Carbon Power and Light customers from Saratoga to Encampment lost power around 8:45. Power was restored around 12:30. On its Facebook page, Carbon Power and Light blamed their electricity supplier, Colorado-based Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, for the outage.
Tri-State Generation provides electricity for much of Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico, as well as parts of Nebraska through a mix of coal, natural gas, and renewable energy.
Tri-State Senior Communications Manager Lee Boughey said a single power distribution line running to the Trowbridge Substation, north of Saratoga, failed.
Power was restored to the Platte Valley around 12:30 Saturday afternoon. Boughey said crews quickly found the problem, but fire restrictions delayed repairs.
Carbon Power and Light Director of Member Services Joe Parrie told Bigfoot99 that only Platte Valley customers were affected by Saturday’s power outage.
