Despite missing FEMA’s July 20th deadline for submitting an appeal to the “special flood hazard area” designation on the south side, the City of Rawlins may still be able to present its case to the agency.

FEMA’s draft maps identified more than half of the south side as at risk of flooding. The designation could result in raising the insurance rates of some residents there by nearly $100 a month.

The new Director of Public Works told Bigfoot 99 that although the statutory deadline has passed, FEMA has agreed to review late submissions of any scientific and technical data. The engineers hired by the city are already at work. Cali O’Hare has the story.
