With Independence Day less than a month away, and wildfires already burning in Carbon County, local fire and law enforcement officials are reminding all area residents and visitors that it is illegal to shoot off, or even possess, fireworks in Carbon County without first obtaining a permit.

The commissioners recently authorized the fire warden to waive the $25 fee for over-the-counter shows at his discretion, while commercial displays will still require a $100 permit and inspection. Cali O’Hare has more.
