Carbon County rode out the first winter storm of the season in mostly good spirits Tuesday, happy that snow finally fell in the region after a long, dry October.

Lawns and fields took in the welcomed soaking. Traffic continued to roll down Interstate 80.

Snow banding produced periods of moderate snow. Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, periods of thunder rolled through the Upper Platte River Valley from the storm. Bands of moderate to heavy snow mixed with rain fell at one time.

The weather produced a series of traffic incidents as motorists tangled with snowy roads, slick conditions and their own lack of preparation, as heard on the emergency services radio channels Tuesday.

Conditions were wet with snowfall and fog. The evening commute on Tuesday was wet and hazardous at times and in places, especially on Interstate 80.
