Food trucks will no longer be permitted to operate outside of Tractor Supply in Rawlins.
Yesterday, July 23rd, around 11:00 a.m., Rawlins Police officers removed all food trucks from the parking lot of Tractor Supply, located at 2201 Plaza Street. The area had long served as the regular location for food trucks and other mobile vendors. Residents speculated on why the trucks had to move.
Rawlins Police Chief Mike Ward told Bigfoot99 that the owner of the lot, Cocca Development LLC, out of Boardman, Ohio, demanded the removal of the food trucks. Because the vendors lacked permission to operate on the property, they were forced to relocate.
News of the eviction quickly spread across social media, prompting other business owners to offer their properties to the displaced food trucks. Several people recommended reaching out to Reed Gray, owner of the Rawlins Glass building, for permission to use his property. As of yesterday afternoon, the mobile vendors were operating out of the Bomgaars and City Market parking lot.
It is unclear why, after years of allowing mobile vendors to operate on their property, Cocca Development chose to issue the removal order. Bigfoot99 contacted the property owner yesterday afternoon and was informed that the individual responsible for the decision was unavailable to speak at the time. The receptionist said that person would return our reporter’s call, but as of this report, no call has been received.
