Winter storms plague Rawlins
Following a brutal stretch of winter storms, high winds, and freezing temps, the City of Rawlins remains buried under mounds of snow. Some city streets have been closed until further notice due to drifts as deep as nine feet.
Yesterday afternoon, the Rawlins Police Department issued travel restrictions in two parts of the town because of conditions and disabled vehicles. Cali O’Hare reports.
County planner gives update on BCR ski hill
County officials are working to develop a resolution to allow Brush Creek Ranch to use its property on Green Mountain for a ski hill this winter.
The resolution will include a deadline of May 2021 for the ranch to submit a zone change for the land to continue as a ski area in the future. Emma Diercks has more on the plan to accommodate the resort.
Tempers flare over sprinkler system debate
Tempers reached the flash point at this week’s Rawlins City Council meeting. The question that sparked the flare-up: Should the council adopt a proposed ordinance that would require sprinkler systems in all new homes.
It’s not the first time the issue has come up. Current and former fire officials want to push some of the financial burden of suppressing fires to homeowners with no reduction to department budgets.
Two recent demonstrations of how the systems can put out a fire have done little to cool down emotions over the subject. Cali O’Hare reports.
